Welcome to Part Two of my three-part guide to the most dog-friendly places around Sarasota and Bradenton!
If you read Part One, you already know some of my favorite places to explore on leash. But sometimes, your dog just needs to run. Full-speed, ears-flapping, tongue-lolling kind of running. And for that, nothing beats a great off-leash park or a splash in the surf.
As a local pet photographer (and dog mom to three very opinionated pups), I spend a lot of time exploring dog-friendly places—not just for play, but to scout the best photo session spots too. These are some of the most tail-wagging, freedom-filled locations for off-leash adventures in our area.
Top Off-Leash Dog Parks Around Sarasota & Bradenton
Lakewood Ranch Dog Park (Greenbrook Adventure Park) – Lakewood Ranch
This beautiful park offers separate areas for large and small dogs, shaded benches, water stations, and wide-open space—perfect for play and pet portraits alike.
Photography tip: Golden hour light here is ideal for vibrant, action-filled dog photography.
Happy Tails Dog Park at G.T. Bray – Bradenton
This well-kept park offers three separate play areas that rotate use, helping preserve the grass. There’s a rinse station, agility equipment, and plenty of seating. Locals love how friendly and social the vibe is—great if your dog thrives on making new friends.
17th Street Paw Park – Sarasota
Not my persoanl favorite, but it is a Sarasota classic and you'll always find other dogs for play dates. This spacious park has separate big and small dog areas, ample shade, and even a doggie drinking fountain. It’s close to downtown but feels worlds away.
Creekwood Canine Park – Bradenton (off SR 70 near interstate)
My dogs love this spot—it’s convenient, peaceful, and surprisingly spacious. There are two large fenced areas for big and small dogs to play safely, along with covered picnic tables, shade trees, and easy walking paths that loop around the dog area for a relaxing leashed stroll before or after playtime.
It’s centrally located near shops and dining, with plenty of parking, making it a great go-to whether you’re planning a dedicated outing or just squeezing in a quick romp while running errands.
Located inside Arlington Park, this fenced-in dog area used to be a baseball field, so it’s roomy and flat. It offers double-gated entrances, water stations, and sections for large and small dogs. It’s mostly sunny but surrounded by walkable shaded paths in the larger park.
Gillespie Park Canine Club – Sarasota (Rosemary District)
Nestled in one of Sarasota’s oldest parks, Gillespie’s off-leash Canine Club is a community favorite. It has separate areas for large and small dogs, seating, water fountains, and a pretty pond nearby. It’s walkable from downtown—perfect for dogs and humans who love a little city energy.
Photography tip: With its city-meets-nature vibe and charming landscape, Gillespie is ideal for capturing personality-filled portraits with a touch of urban charm.
Arlington Paw Park – Sarasota
Located inside Arlington Park, this fenced-in dog area used to be a baseball field, so it’s roomy and flat. It offers double-gated entrances, water stations, and sections for large and small dogs. It’s mostly sunny but surrounded by walkable shaded paths in the larger park.
Photography tip: The tree lined paths around the park create great natural framing and backdrop for stunning portraits as well as iin-action shots
Laurie Crawford Dog Park – Palmetto (Blackstone Park)
Tucked into the northeast corner of G.T. Bray Park, this off-leash dog area is a hidden gem with a laid-back, local vibe. There are two fenced sections for large and small dogs, plus covered picnic tables, benches, and shaded spots to cool off. Water fountains, waste stations, and easy parking make it super convenient—whether you’re planning a playdate or just stopping by before heading to nearby shops and restaurants.
Surrounding walking paths offer a nice leashed stroll, It may not be fancy, but it has heart—and friendly regulars who make it feel like part of the community.
Coming Soon: The Dog Bar Sarasota – Opening Mid July
Exciting news—The Dog Bar Sarasota is opening mid July in the former Boo’s Ice House & Dog Bar location, a space that was already a beloved hangout for local dog lovers. Now, it’s getting a fresh start under new ownership by the team behind the original Dog Bar in St. Pete.
This spot offers a large air-conditioned indoor off-leash play area, a spacious outdoor yard, and a full restaurant and bar—making it the perfect place to relax while your dog plays freely. Think social hub, dog park, and neighborhood hangout all rolled into one.
They’re planning a full calendar of events, breed meet-ups, and community gatherings, so keep an eye out—this is sure to become one of Sarasota’s top dog-friendly destinations.
I’m looking forward to seeing it come to life again— capturing some of the joy and chaos that comes with dogs at play here always made my heart and camera happy.
Dog Beaches & Splash Zones for Water-Loving Pups
Brohard Paw Park – Venice
The only official dog beach in Sarasota County, with Gulf views, fenced beach access, and rinse stations.
Pet photography tip: Splash shots + sunset = unbeatable.
Fort De Soto Park – Tierra Verde
A little farther, but absolutely worth it. Fort De Soto’s dog beach is stunning, with soft white sand and shallow waters perfect for swimming. The adjacent fenced dog park has shaded areas and rinse stations.
Pet photography tip: Lush natural lanscaoe plus beach offers lots of variety ifor custom sessions.
Palma Sola Causeway – Bradenton
Not technically a dog beach—but your pup won’t know the difference. This popular stretch along Manatee Avenue welcomes dogs to splash, swim, and dig in the sand right off the bay. There’s no fence, so it’s not officially off-leash, but you’ll often see dogs running free under watchful eyes.
Be mindful of traffic and other beachgoers, especially on weekends when it gets busy. Early mornings and weekdays are best for a calmer, more relaxed vibe.
Photography tip: Sunrise or overcast days create gorgeous, even light. Wet noses and sandy paws? Perfection.
Emerson Point Preserve – Palmetto
Tucked away at the tip of Snead Island, Emerson Point Preserve offers a beautiful mix of shaded trails, mangrove boardwalks, and a peaceful slice of shoreline where dogs can splash and swim. At the very end of the preserve, there’s a small beachy area where dogs are often seen off leash, romping in the water and living their best salty life.
It’s not a formal dog beach—but it’s quiet, scenic, and one of the area’s hidden gems. A perfect spot if your pup loves a little adventure and you want to avoid the crowds.
Final Thoughts
Off-leash adventures are where dogs shine brightest—and where some of the best moments are made. These Sarasota-Bradenton dog parks and beaches are more than places to play; they’re backdrops for stories, friendships, and beautiful portraits.
If you’re dreaming of dog photos that capture your pup’s true spirit—muddy paws, windswept fur, joyful leaps—I’d love to help you bring that vision to life.
